“Hey Fred,” she said. “You looking for Angela? She’s off helping a client tonight. I’m not sure when she’ll be back.”
“Oh,” Frederica muttered.
“Did you want me to pass along a message or something?” Genesis asked.
“No, that’s okay,” Frederica replied. “I didn’t really have a reason for dropping by. I was just….”
“Bored?” Genesis said. “Lonely?
“Something like that,” Frederica said with a shrug. “Anyway, I’ll let you get back to whatever you were doing.”
“All I was doing was drinking wine and watching anime,” she said. “Do you… want to join me?”
Frederica considered it a moment, then smiled and said, “Yeah, I’d like that.”
Frederica woke early in the morning on the couch with a blanket draped over her. She was slightly hungover but her healing factor took care of that pretty quickly. As she sat up and stretched, a sticky note drifted to the floor. She picked it up.
Had to go to work. Hope you’re feeling better today.
P.S. Season two starts next month. You in?
Below the message were the words “YES” and “NO” with a box beside each. Frederica found a pen and checked off “YES”. Last night was exactly what she’d needed. Footsteps creaked on the stairs and Angela stepped down into the living room, still in her pajamas.
“Morning, Fred,” she said. “Sleep well?”
“Oh yeah, your couch is a lot more comfortable than the beds in residence,” Frederica replied. “Sorry for imposing so suddenly.”
“Eh, don’t worry about it,” Angela said. “You’re always welcome here.”
Frederica glanced at the floor and said, “Thanks.”
