“Damn,” Nila said. “Gonna take me a while to get used to this whole ‘gravity’ thing.”
“You can lean on me as much as you need,” Frederica said.
“I might just take you up on that,” Nila said, and turned to Magh. “Get your ass over here, dude.”
Magh approached tentatively and Nila pulled them both into a group hug.
“Love the new look, by the way,” Nila said.
Magh swallowed hard and said, “Thanks.”
“I’m so glad you guys are back,” Frederica said.
“Me too,” Nila said. “I’m looking forward to finally meeting Melody. Is she here?”
Frederica shook her head.
“Still in Halifax,” she said. “She’ll be coming in a few more days.”
“Who is Melody?” Magh asked.
“Oh yeah, you wouldn’t have heard,” Frederica replied. “She’s, um, my girlfriend. We met over the summer and really hit it off. She decided to move here for school.”
“Wow,” Magh said. “Then I, too, look forward to meeting her.”
“You will,” Frederica said. “But in the meantime….”
She nodded over Magh’s shoulder, where Tommy stood a ways off, thumbs hooked in the pockets of his jeans.
“Hey,” he said. “Sorry I’m late.”
Magh turned and ran toward him and threw her arms around his neck and kissed him. Nila nudged Frederica with her elbow.
“That was so romantic,” Nila said. “I half expected him to pick her up and twirl her around.”
“If only it were raining they could be on a movie poster,” Frederica replied.
“I know, right?” Nila said. “Swoon.”
They laughed and Tommy sighed.
“You know we can hear you, right?” he asked.
Frederica grabbed Nila’s hand and turned them both invisible. They laughed again.
