“So… we’re good now?” Nila asked.

Frederica smiled and said, “We always were.”

Nila smiled back.

“I’m just lucky you don’t have a brother,” she said. “Otherwise I’d really be in trouble.”

“Oh, I haven’t mentioned Kay?” Frederica asked. “Half-brother on my mother’s side?”

“No, you most certainly have not,” Nila said. “What is he—Wait, stop, I don’t want to know.”

Nila bit her lip and glanced away.

“We should get going,” she said to Ji-soo.

Ji-soo nodded and turned to Frederica.

“Thanks again,” she said. “Goodbye.”

“See you around,” Frederica said.

Josephine tipped an imaginary hat as Nila and Ji-soo headed down the hall. They turned right and disappeared down the stairs. Josephine glanced at Frederica.

“I don’t know about you,” Frederica said, “but I have to go to work.”

“Okay, now this I’ve got to see,” Josephine said.

Frederica rolled her eyes.
